Refreshingly straightforward food that everyone likes
HOME MAGAZINE
We serve Breakfast and Dinner seven days a week and booking is essential for non-residents. Fresh local and/or organic produce is our preferred choice but quality is paramount, as our regular guests will testify.
Many of the companies we deal with are members (like us) of the New Forest Marque and Hampshire Fare, supporting the promotion of local produce.
We received the Silver “Flavour of the South East” Award in the Tourism ExSEllence Awards 2009, following Gold Awards for Outstanding Customer Service (2007) and Access for All (2008).
The Restaurant is fully accessible to wheelchair users and has, in addition to the five bedrooms, been inspected under the National Accessible Scheme (Level 1 for Mobility, Visual and Hearing Impairments).

Most improved Wine List
CONDÉ NAST JOHANSENS/CHAMPAGNE TAITTINGER WINE LIST AWARD 2009
“The List has improved dramatically in terms of choice, interest and layout whilst still retaining all the personality and quirky hallmarks,” said the judges of this prestigious award.
The current selection features 100 wines, marking the centenary of the original Nurse’s Cottage building. Nearly half of these come from France, our closest wine-producing neighbour, but 17 other countries are included, with a total of 65 different grapes – from Aglianico del Vulture to Zinfandel. A Baker’s Dozen are served by the glass and a further 26 wines are available in half bottles.
Super slice of traditional England

Much of the charm of a visit to The Nurse’s Cottage Restaurant with Rooms is the courteous service provided by the predominantly young team, most of whom have grown up in the village. Organisations such as Springboard UK, Edge, Condé Nast Johansens and the New Forest Business Partnership have all acknowledged the truly personal service all too rarely found today.
Reception Shop and Information Point
As well as souvenirs, maps and guides, our Reception Shop sells local produce including speciality cheeses, free-range eggs, preserves, honey and chocolates. A selection of wine-related accessories are also available and resident and restaurant guests may purchase local wines, cider and beers. The Nurse’s Cottage offers a comprehensive range of visitor information leaflets and is the New Forest National Park Authority appointed Local Information Point.
Special Events
A programme of events is organised through the year, invariably at lunchtime, with the focus on food and wine: from a full month of local food promotions during the Hampshire Food Festival each July to food and wine matching meals and mystery wine tastings. Details of these are circulated to members of our Silver Service loyalty scheme and may also be found on our website.
