Already heralded earlier this year as one of Britain’s Top 20 Landladies of the Year by the AA, chef/proprietor Tony Barnfield is in line for two more national titles later this year.
RAC inspectors have nominated Tony’s tiny New Forest cottage as one of the Best Small Hotels of the Year: the result will be announced at their Blue Ribbon Awards Ceremony in November.
Meantime, the Southern Tourist Board’s regional nominations for the annual ETB England for Excellence Awards are being presented this month, and The Nurse’s Cottage has been named Bed and Breakfast of the Year in The Beautiful South.
STB Chairman Michael Green commented: “Businesses in line for England for Excellence all demonstrate that their already high standards and qualities of professionalism have been raised further still in the past year, and The Nurse’s Cottage is leading the way for bed and breakfasts in our region. This is no mean achievement with standards now so high that it is very difficult to improve on them.”
At Tuesday’s (11th August) ceremony, Tony Barnfield announced that in addition to catering for the half-dozen guests staying at any time, The Nurse’s Cottage was now able to serve Dinner for non-residents, backed up by a Wine List containing over 70 selections from around the world. However, Tony warned, advance booking is essential because of the limited accommodation available.
