General Information

The Nurse's Cottage Restaurant With Rooms occupies a prime site in the centre of the thriving village of Sway, one mile from the open countryside of The New Forest.

Only two hours from London with excellent road/rail access to the rest of Britain, Sway offers the visitor every opportunity to explore the magnificent New Forest, rich in history and famous for the ponies and deer which roam freely. The area's gallery ArtSway is immediately opposite The Nurse's Cottage Restaurant With Rooms, offering a regularly changing range of exhibitions. Although it is not open to visitors, the village's landmark folly Sway Tower can be seen from some distance away: over 100 years old, it was built as a celebration of concrete! The village has a busy programme of annual events, from the traditional Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race to Sway Boule in June, Carnival Week in July and more besides.

If you wish, simply soak in the area's natural beauty by car, bicycle, on foot or horseback! The numerous places to visit locally include Exbury Gardens and the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. Close to the coast at Lymington and Milford-on-Sea, The Nurse's Cottage is also an ideal touring centre, with Winchester and Salisbury Cathedrals, the historic dockyard at Portsmouth, Southampton, Bournemouth, Poole, Purbeck and the Isle of Wight all within easy reach. A comprehensive range of tourist information literature is freely available, and escorted walks, tours, picnics and more adventurous pursuits can all be arranged.
