AS A RECESSION CONCESSION, OUR 2009 ACCOMMODATION RATES WILL BE HELD UNTIL 1 APRIL 2010
Firmly established as a Forest favourite, The Nurse’s Cottage has over the years secured a reputation for top-notch hospitality, excellent service, fine food and wines – above all, somewhere to unwind and be pampered!
Whether it’s that one snatched night away from everyday rigours, a long weekend perhaps, a Bargain Break, even a week’s holiday, Chef/Proprietor Tony Barnfield and his award-winning young team will ensure that your visit to The New Forest National Park becomes an event to savour and remember!
Spring or Summer, weekend or weekday, advance booking is a must, as this little gem is invariably over-subscribed months ahead.
Completed in June 1909, the Cottage was for some 70 years home to Sway’s successive District Nurses, after whom the five individually designed ensuite bedrooms are named. More recent times have seen this become one of the New Forest ’s most highly acclaimed places to wine, dine and relax, enjoying an enviable reputation for comfort, good food and warm hospitality.
Awards for Outstanding Customer Service, Hospitality and Service to Tourism have been heaped upon The Nurse’s Cottage for more than a decade and favourable reviews have appeared frequently on radio, television and in the national and regional press. Paddy Burt of The Daily Telegraph described Tony Barnfield as “a man who knows the art of cosseting”, while others have praised the high standards of hospitality.
Much of the charm of a visit to The Nurse’s Cottage Restaurant with Rooms is the courteous service provided by the predominantly young team, most of whom have grown up in the village. Organisations such as Springboard UK, Edge, Condé Nast Johansens and the New Forest Business Partnership have all acknowledged the truly personal service all too rarely found today.
Over two decades, Tony Barnfield pioneered the use of local and/or organic produce, sourcing much of this from New Forest Marque® producers. Continuous awards have followed, from AA Best Breakfast in Britain to Tourism South East’s 2009 Silver Award for “Flavour of the South East”. In previous years’ Tourism ExSEllence Awards, both the “Access for All” and “Outstanding Customer Service of the Year” awards were bestowed on the small Sway business.
Recommended by Condé Nast Johansens throughout the present decade, the extensive but approachable Wine List was named the Condé Nast Johansens Champagne Taittinger Most Improved Wine List of the Year 2009.
The Nurse’s Cottage Restaurant with Rooms is open seven days a week for accommodation, breakfast and dinner, with the exception of a three-week closure in November and February/March for staff holidays. It also serves as the New Forest National Park Authority’s Local Information Point, providing visitors to the area with information about local history, customs, attractions and places to stay.
